  • 25/09/06: The MLG and the UCL Machine Learning Group are jointly organizing the First Research Contact Day of the Computational Intelligence and Learning (CIL) doctoral school at ULB, Brussels.

  • 25/02/06: The paper "Gene expression profiling in breast cancer: Understanding the molecular basis of histologic grade to improve prognosis" (authored by Sotiriou C, Wirapati P, Loi S, Harris A, Bergh J, Smeds J, Farmer P, Praz V, Haibe-Kains B, Lallemand F, Buyse M, Piccart M and Delorenzi M) has been published in the Journal of National Cancer Institute. The article is free via Open Access here.

  • 24/11/05: The MLG group takes part, together with Erasme ULB (Service d'anesthésie),  FPMS, St. Luc (UCL), CHU Liège, in the 4-year project "Tania- Système d'aide à la conduite en anestésie" on data mining and decision support systems in anaesthesia. The project is funded by Région Wallonie (WALEO 2).

  • 24/08/05: The papers  "Speeding up Feature Selection Selection by Using an Information Theoretic Bound" (authored by P.E. Meyer , O. Caelen  and G. Bontempi) and "How to allocate a restricted budget of leave-one-out assessments for effective model selection in machine learning: a comparison of state-of-the-art techniques" (authored by O. Caelen  and G. Bontempi) have been accepted at the 17th Belgian-Dutch Conference on Artificial Intelligence (BNAIC '05).
  • 11/05/05: The abstract "Adaptive data mining for sensor network data" by G. Bontempi (MLG), Y. Le Borgne (MLG), M. Moussaid (MLG) has been accepted for presentation at the one-day symposium  "The Belgian Data Mining Day" which will take place in Antwerp on Friday, May 27, 2005.
  • 15/04/05: The MLG welcomes Giorgio Corani and Mehdi Moussaid for a 3-month stay as a visiting scientist and as a stagiaire respectively.
  • 23/02/05: Gianluca Bontempi presents on wednesday March the 16th, the talk "Feature selection methods for mining bio-informatics data" at the one-day symposium on "The Interface between Data Mining and Operations Research" organised by the Belgian Operations Research Society at the Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis (FUSL).
  • 21/02/05: The paper "Prediction of early distant relapses on tamoxifen in early-stage breast cancer (BC): a potential tool for adjuvant aromatase inhibitor (AI) tailoring" authored by B. Haibe-Kains (MLG) has been accepted for inclusion in the Proceedings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Meeting, Orlando 2005.
  • 20/02/05: Gianluca Bontempi takes part to the NFS (US National Science Foundation) Workshop on Learning in Exchange, organized by the Nobel prize in Economics Vernon Smith (George Mason University), in Washington on March the 7th and the 8th.
  • 03/02/05: The paper "Structural feature selection for wrapper methods" authored by G. Bontempi (MLG) has been accepted for a poster presentation at the European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks ESANN 2005.

2004:
  • 29/11/04: The paper "On the use of supervised learning techniques to speed up the design of aeronautics components" authored by G. Bontempi (MLG), O. Caelen (MLG), S. Pierret (CENAERO), C. Goffaux (CENAERO) is accepted as a contributed paper for presentation at WSEAS MMACTEE 2004.
  • 17/11/04: The paper "Combining Lazy Learning, Racing and Subsampling for Effective Feature Selection", authored by G.Bontempi (MLG), M. Birattari (IRIDIA) and P. E. Meyer (MLG) is accepted as a contributed paper for presentation at ICANNGA 2005.
  • 01/11/04: The MLG group takes part, together with Voice Insight and TITAN, in the 2-year project "AIDAR - Adressage et Indexation de Documents Multimédias Assistés par des techniques de Reconnaissance Vocale" on automatic indexing and classification of multimedia documents. The project is funded by Région Bruxelles-Capitale.
