PhD project

Contribution of vegetation fires to atmospheric emissions of reactive nitrogen species: time series and global distributions of ammonia total columns from the IASI sounder.
This project is a contribution to the study of vegetation fires. It focuses on the emissions of reactive nitrogen species into the atmosphere, by studying time series and global distributions of ammonia (NH3) total columns from the IASI instruments onboard MetOp. The NH3 columns will be combined for the first time to those of nitrogen dioxide (NO2, from GOME-2 sounder) and carbon monoxide (also from IASI) to better understand the relative emissions of nitrogen compounds from the fires and their correlation to those of carbon species. Each of these aspects will be examined first from the observation point-of-view. Selected cases will then be analysed with the CHIMERE chemistry-transport model.
