The complete innovation chain
Biopark Charleroi Brussels South is a biotechnology excellence cluster located within Gosselies Aéropole, not far from Charleroi-Brussels South Airport. It combines two universities – the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Université de Mons – and involves a variety of organisations involved in scientific innovation.
Four dedicated RESEARCH centres: the Institute for Biology and Molecular Medicine (IBMM), the Institute for Medical Immunology (IMI), the Laboratoire de biotechnologie végétale (LBV) and, since 2011, the Centre for Microscopy and Molecular Imaging (CMMI).
An array of TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS offer a varied spectrum of services for use by academics and private sector researchers, primarily in the fields of molecular biology, imaging, and immunology.
Two units help scientifsts to find pratical APPLICATIONS for the results of their research: patent approval with the Technological Transfer Office, and hosting and business development through the i-Tech Incubator and its partner investors.
Over ten COMPANIES, most of which are university spin-offs, are also present on the Biopark and reap the rewards of this strategic location within the Aéropole. SA Biopole ULB Charleroi and i-Tech Incubator SA also operate on the site.
In addition, TRAINING is provided on-site, ensuring the continued professional development of students, scientists, professors, and jobseekers, resulting in a qualified workforce for the whole sector.
Having all of these different facilities available on a single site has enormous advantages, not least in the mutually beneficial relationships that form to make a solid professional network. All of this makes the Biopark an ideal setting for partnerships between universities (ULB-UMONS), specialist schools (Technological Campus), as well as public (Région Wallonne, Province de Hainaut, IGRETEC, etc.) and private partners (GSK, UCB, spin-offs, etc.).
Biopark Charleroi Brussels South can today be considered a resounding success.
