Viewing "mailheaders" of email messages

Each message that you send or receive contains some additional information in the so-called "message headers", such as who it was sent from, who it was sent to, the computer it was sent from, through which mailservers the message was transferred (and possibly delayed), etc. Most mailprograms such as Outlook and Mac Mail allow you to visualize this information.

To examine the mailheaders in Office 365 (Portal website)

1. open the message you wish to inspect
2. click on the message action menu (the arrow to the right of the message)...
3....and choose the option "View message details"

To examine the mailheaders in Outlook 2010
1. open the message you wish to inspect
2. open the menu "File", click on "Info" and then click on "Properties"...
3. then examine the text in "Internet headers"

To examine the mailheaders in Apple Mail
1. open the message you wish to inspect
2. open the menu "View", submenu "Message" and choose "Raw source"

To examine the mailheaders in Roundcube Webmail
1. select the message by clicking its subject
2. click on the wheel icon and select "Show source"

To examine the mailheaders in Outlook (2003/2007)
1. click once on the message you wish to inspect
2. right-click the mouse and select "Options..." or "Message Options"...
3. then examine the text in "Internet headers"

To examine the mailheaders in Webmail3
1. open the message by clicking its subject
2. click on the link "show headers"

To examine the mailheaders in Eudora
1. open the message in a separate window by double-clicking it
2. click on a small icon "blah blah..."

The actual address the message was sent to is shown in the X-Original-To header. The To: header does not require your address to be included, it is purely there for your information (see the example above).
