The EAIE/ UNICA-IRO meeting is scheduled on Friday September 17th from 12:30 until 14:00.
The name of the meeting room is ‘Sala C’, Piano 2.
We will have lunch at the ‘regular’ EAIE buffet from 12:00 to 12:30. Coffee, tea and refreshments will be at your disposal in the meeting room.
Eric Froment, President of the EUA, and Lesley Wilson, Secretary General of the EUA, will join us and give us an update of the EUA initiatives.
It will be possible to discuss future cooperation.
We also invited Bernd Wächter, Director of ACA. He let me know that he or his colleague Maria Kelo will give us an overview of the ACA projects.
We will also discuss the state of the art of the UNICA projects.
Representatives of UNICA universities attending the EAIE Conference are most welcome.

    From 15 to 16 November 2002 the UNICA General Assembly took place at the University of Cyprus, Cyprus. A Rectors Conference has been held on November 14th and an IRO-Meeting on November 16th. 24-25 October 2002
    Seminar on The Future of Scholarly Communication
    October 24th and 25th 2002 a Seminar took place on The Future of Scholarly Communication, hosted by the University Complutense of Madrid and Chaired by Prof. J.P. Devroey, Director of the Libraries of the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
    This was at the Universidad Complutense Historical Library «Marqués de Valdecilla» (C/ Noviciado 3.Madrid).
    The aim was to put in common our experiences in a new professional framework; to acknowledge the enormous effects that the new economic and scholarly communication management models have for our institutions and to outline concrete proposals which will be able to solve these new problems.

    A seminar for officers dealing with European research contracts. The seminar is open for staff from the member universities of Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe - UNICA. The aim is to define the ”state of the art” and to discuss common problems in relation to the research contracts funded under the Commission’s Fifth Framework Programme. Experts in Law and representatives of the European Commission will be invited to give presentations on different topics, like the following:
    * IPR (Intellectual Property Rights)  and legislation regarding employees´ inventions.
    * Technical solutions for compensation to IPR owners
    * The European Commission´s Model Contract for FP5 and for FP6
    * Consortium Agreements

     "Revenue Diversification in a World of  Shrinking Government Resources"
    Topics discussed at the panel presentations during the meeting are Corporate Relationships, Personal and Institutional funding, Tuition and Fees, and Continuing Education. Highlight will be the Dedication of the Lillian Vernon Center for Internaitonal Affairs of NYU, which will have a permanent suite of offices available for visiting rectors of the League.
    From UNICA, the president Pierre Ducrey will attend the meeting, as well as representatives of several UNICA member institutions linked to the League, as Amsterdam, Athens, ULB, Eotvos Lorand Budapest, University College Dublin, La Sapienza, Freie Universitat Berlin, Stockholm, Copenhagen, complutense de Madrid, Warsaw, University College London, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
    It is an event on invitation by NYU so not open to the public.
