The Faculty of Architecture

The Faculty of Architecture was created within Université libre de Bruxelles in 2009, with the fusion of both "La Cambre" and "Victor Horta" Institutes. The ULB Faculty of Architecture now welcomes over 1200 students from various origins who enjoy the guarantee of quality teaching with a strong thrust for individualism in those disciplines that demand such a quality, even more so in the architecture projects.

The teaching system relies on the fine balance between rigorous theoretical knowledge and the development of personal expression, a critical mind, and a sense of social commitment. The architect, and likewise the landscaper or urban planner, are by definition builders of a way of life and the environment.
In this present pivotal age marked by climate change, a society of permanent risk and major catastrophes, the development of precariousness and exclusion, the situation of refugees and requests for political asylum, new age exclusion factors, city policies for enhanced attraction, demands stemming from urban densification, and the value of heritage… today’s architect can only be a true professional if he/she is aware of and competent in state of the art technologies, and he/she has a responsibility to strive for a better and fairer society at large.
