present the third
Modave Summer School
in Mathematical Physics
We are glad to announce you the third edition of
the Modave Summer
School in
Mathematical Physics that will be
organized from the 29th of August to the 4th of September 2007, by
young
PhD students and Post-docs of the Service de physique
théorique et mathématique of the ULB, the Theoretical
Particle Physics Group of the VUB, the Service de physique des
particules of the Université de
Mons-Hainaut, the String theory
group of Universita' degli Studi di Milano I and the I.H.E.S.
The aim is to study tools useful for research in theoretical physics of fundamental interactions, generally supposed to be known but too seldom explained in details.
The summer school will consist of about 6 hours of lectures a day, during the morning from 9h to 12h30 and in the late afternoon from 16h to 19h. The participants who wish to may give a short presentation on their work (10-15 min). The lectures will be given in English. The atmosphere should be informal and relaxed, so as to encourage the participants to interact with the speakers, who are also young researchers. As the level of the average participant is not known, the courses are supposed to begin with the basics, be synthetic and self-contained. Reference books will also be placed at the disposal of everyone. The major part of the afternoon is left free, in order to allow spontaneous discussions and/or meetings for questions and answers in connection with the morning's courses. Pastoral walks, cultural visits are also possible in the afternoon.

- Integrable models (C. Sieg, 3h)
- Algebraic topology (J. Evslin, A. Wijns , 4h)
- Kac-Moody algebras (D. Persson, N. Tabti, 4h)
- Poisson and symplectic geometry (S. de Buyl, S. Detournay, 4h)
- Background field method and pinch technique (V. Mathieu, 3h)
- D-branes, sheaves and categories (C. Krishnan, 3h)
- Topological strings (A. Collinucci, T. Wyder, 4h)
- Modular forms (D. Van den Bleeken, 3h)
- Special geometry (J. Rosseel, 2h )
Lectures notes as well as necessary qualifications will be available as soon as possible.

The registration fee covering the accomodation and the meals amounts to 200€. For registration, send an e-mail to ntabti@ulb.ac.be, mentioning your name, university, your opinion on the program of the courses, your desiderata, a subject for a talk if you wish to give one, ... .
The deadline for the payment is May 30 2007.

Practical information
Modave is not very accessible, the simplest solution is to take the
train to HUY (http://www.b-rail.be/main/F/index.php
or http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
), from where we will organize a shuttle. Let us know when you arrive
in Huy. Directions

Sheets are not available, so it is necessary to bring a
sleeping bag or sheets, as well as pillowcases. One should also bring
his towels, soap,...
