Credits (ECTS): is it possible to validate transferable skills training for doctoral training?

If you are a PhD candidate at ULB, your supervisory committee can award you ECTS credits, as part of the doctoral training, for your participation to transferable skills training sessions.

It is up to your supervisory committee to decide how many credits to award for each training. For information purposes only, please see the indicative list annexed to ULB PhD regulations (annex 2).

If necessary, you may request an attendance certificate to the organiser.

Calendar of next training sessions

The ULB Continuing Education organises training in several fields: health, public health, biomedical sciences (Biopark), science of psychology and education, humanities and social sciences, finance and management.

In certain cases, reduced fees or free registration may apply to you. Please contact the organisers for more information.

Career development and training for researchers

ULB organises generic skills training and career development support for researchers, at each stage of their career: PhD, post-doctoral research, further research stage (senior researchers), academic position.

The programme has been restructured according to ULB HRS4R action plan (EURAXESS Rights), for which ULB was awarded the HR Excellence in Research logo by the European Commission.

Foreign languages

  • Foreign languages courses are organised all over the year at ULB and at F9 Languages in Brussels as part of ULB Plan langue. Courses are open to ULB researchers (information and registration) and ULB teaching staff (information and registration).

  • Conversation tables, CIDLV.

  • Tandems (conversation exchange): you develop your skills in a foreign language thanks to regular contacts with a student or a PhD candidate which native language is the one you want to improve. You help back your "Tandem partner" to improve his mastery of your native language. The Tandem website is in French but you can contact directly the contact person in charge of your native language to get more information. Jointly organised by ULB/VUB/ISTI (targeted public: PhD candidates).

Literature search

  • Literature search: Cible+, literature search strategies, literature monitoring, specific databases (Scopus, PubMed, etc...), Zotero research sources tool, by Archives and Libraries.

Research projects (drafting and funding) and knowledge transfer

  • Good practices in research (ethics and research integrity), Research Administration Department(targeted public: PhD candidates)

  • Intellectual property, copyright and knowledge transfer, Research Administration Department (targeted public: PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers)

  • Project funding: several units (Research Administration Department, International Relations Office…) organise regularly information sessions or coaching about research funding opportunities and proposals drafting (European funding, regional or federal funding, ARC, BAEF, Fullbright, Wiener-Anspach Foundation…). To learn more and to be personally informed, please register in Infofin, the ULB research funding database. You will be informed, once a week, about new funding calls and about information sessions/coaching, according to your criteria. You can also check Infofin without registering but you won’t get any personalised information.

Supervision and management

  • PhD thesis supervision, Research administration Department: this seminar is designed for ULB PhD supervisors and focuses on concrete cases and on collecting and reflecting on good practices.

  • Team management, Research administration Department: early researchers will have, in the short or medium term, to manage a team, in Academia or outside Academia. This training is an introduction to team management. (targeted public: PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers).

  • Project management, Research administration Department: project management tools applied to doctoral research, even to research in general. (targeted public: PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers).

  • Team management, Human Resources Department: knowledge and tools to help supérieurs hiérarchiques (SH) et responsables opérationnels (RO) with management. Several topics, depending of the role (SH or RO): academic career, evaluating and managing people, time management, regulations and practices, team management, conflict management...

Teaching

Cellule PRAC-TICE (ULB Teaching Support unit) organises training intended for academic staff, assistants and researchers with teaching duties.
