Interuniversity Attraction Poles, IAP

Interuniversity Attraction Poles (IAP) are networks for excellence in fundamental research, funded by the Belgian federal government. IAPs are made up of at least four teams from three universities or federal scientific institutes, from both of Belgium's linguistic communities. They foster relationships between the best Belgian teams and those abroad.

The IAPs have a budget of €156m over 5 years, with different universities each providing a share (€17.1m from ULB).

Each research network is evaluated by experts based on the quality and scientific interest of the project, the skills of the main coordinator, the quality of the partners and their relevance to the project.

Of the 47 IAP that received funding for 2012-2017, ULB coordinates nine and is a partner in another 18.
