CRAW - Lutter contre le racisme au travail. Promoteur : P. Desmarez [Challenging Racism at Work (CRAW)]

2013 will mark the tenth anniversary of the date by which the EU Member States were required to implement the Racial Equality Directive (2000/43/EC). It is the key piece of EU legislation combating discrimination 'on grounds of race or ethnic origin'. It emphasises that individuals should receive no less favourable treatment because of their racial or ethnic characteristics. Adopted in 2000 it prohibits discrimination in the areas of employment, education, social protection including social security and healthcare, and in access to and the supply of goods and services, including housing. The Directive had to be transposed into each Member State's national legislation by July 19 2003 (with the Member States that joined the EU in 2004 and 2007 having slightly extended deadlines to 1 May 2004 and 1 January 2007). [CRAW will mobilise National Advisory Groups comprising its trade union partners and invited participants from other trade unions, non-governmental organisation experts, employer and national equality body representatives to help progress the project in each country. These will advise on the overviews of the main trends studies, on the sectors and workplaces for the case studies, the national findings reports and will participate in the international workshop. The Groups will play a key role in assisting widespread dissemination of the project findings.]
