Les principaux thèmes de recherche de l'Unité de droit économique concernent le droit de la propriété intellectuelle et de la concurrence (spécialement l'interaction entre ces deux domaines), le droit des pratiques du commerce et de la consommation (en ce compris la question de l'introduction d'une forme d'action de groupe, ou class action, en droit belge), le droit bancaire et financier, le droit de l'insolvabilité ainsi que le droit des contrats. Les principaux thèmes de recherche de l'Unité de droit international privé concernent : le processus d'intégration européenne du droit international privé, le contentieux transfrontière européen, les aspects de droit international privé de la propriété intellectuelle et des nouvelles technologies, les interactions entre le droit de la concurrence, la régulation des marchés et le droit international privé.
