EU Citizens and citizens from countries that have a bilateral social security agreement with Belgium: social security coverage including medical insurance, unemployment benefit, retirement pension, maternity leave and child benefit.

Non-EU Citizens from countries that have no bilateral social security agreement with Belgium: social security coverage including medical insurance, maternity leave and child benefit.

Funding your postdoctoral research at the ULB

There are several ways of funding your postdoctoral research, and access to each of them is highly competitive. It is therefore important to take the time to compile your funding application properly. Your research supervisor can help you identify the best source of funding for your particular circumstances and help you with your application.

Funding your postdoctoral research at the ULB

There are a number of funding opportunities for postdoctoral research.

Postdoctoral contract

To obtain a contract, send your application to the funding body or the ULB. The deadlines, schedules, and addresses vary from one body to another.

Postdoctoral research on a research project

You are taken on as a postdoctoral researcher within the framework of a research project such as an ARC or ERC.

You can either respond to a job ad published by the research project leader or you may be contacted directly.

Contracts for foreign postdoctoral researchers

If you completed your PhD abroad, you are eligible to apply for mobile postdoctoral research contracts such as the WBI IN excellence grants or the ULB postdoctoral IN grants (BRIC).

Private funding

Depending on the field, it may be possible to obtain a grant or contract funded by a company or private fund. You should discuss these options with your supervisor.
