Assembly help: Elena Tegovska Erasmus Mundus in more detail…Erasmus Mundus - Masters and Doctoral coursesAt the Masters and Doctoral levels, the Erasmus Mundus programme supports very high quality combined academic courses, offered by consortiums of universities from at least three European countries and possibly from third countries, providing study, teaching and research grants. The courses must involve mobility between the consortium institutions and result in the grant of a joint degree, whether double or multiple. Over a hundred Masters courses have gained the Erasmus Mundus label since the programme started in 2004. At the commencement of the 2010-11 academic year, 116 Erasmus Mundus Masters courses and 13 Erasmus Mundus Doctoral courses were opened to students from all over the world in a very broad range of disciplines. Action 1Erasmus Mundus MASTERS – Definition and targetsAn Erasmus Mundus Masters lasts 1 or 2 years (60-120 ECTS credits). It is provided by a consortium of at least 3 universities located in 3 eligible countries, and includes a stay in at least two countries of the consortium. Double, multiple or joint degrees that are fully recognised and supported by grants can be awarded. The purpose of the Erasmus Mundus Masters is the promotion of structured cooperation between institutions of higher education. They offer high quality programmes that seek to create centres of excellence and to increase the visibility and attractiveness of European higher education in the world. Erasmus Mundus DOCTORATE – Definition and targetsThe Erasmus Mundus Doctorate represents a combined 3-4 year doctoral course, designed by a consortium of universities from at least 3 different European countries. This period includes mandatory study and research in at least 2 of the countries of the consortium and offers a double, multiple or joint degree that is fully recognised. Grants are equally for students from the European Union and from outside. This programme seeks to contribute to doctoral studies within European higher education and to provide support for young researchers by providing them with a structure of excellence in which to carry out their research. Action 2PARTNERSHIPSErasmus Mundus partnerships provide structured support for individual mobility between European universities and universities from targeted third countries.
The Erasmus Mundus programme provides the selected partnerships with mobility grants for European nationals and for citizens of third countries. Erasmus Mundus at ULBThe Université libre de Bruxelles was one of the pioneering universities in the management and development of Erasmus Mundus. ULB in fact obtained the coordination of an Erasmus Mundus Masters in the first wave of selections in 2004, and repeated that by getting an Erasmus Mundus Doctorate the first year they were introduced (2009). In addition, ULB is actively involved in various “Erasmus Mundus Action 2” partnerships that cover the countries of Asia and Latin America. Erasmus Mundus Masters and Doctorates at ULB (Action 1)
