The EU newcomers will play very important role in formulating as well as conducting CFSP and ESDP after May 2004. This seminar has intention to analyse the impact of EU enlargement on EU role as a security actor and the influence of new members on ESDP. The Institute of International Relations will publish the special issue of "Perspectives - The Central European Review of International Affairs (English language journal) with selected articles of seminar speakers.

Panel 1. will deal with current development in ESDP, EU - NATO relations, topical issues of Military Capabilities and with the security and defence role of the EU after enlargement. Panel 2. will present the positions of EU new members and their attitude to ESDP, transatlantic relations and to Eastern dimension of EU policy. Finally, Panel 3 will analyse selected aspects of ESDP, especially issues of military capabilities, security sector reform and civil-military relations.
