Suzana Gavrilescu joined ESDPdemocracy in October 2003 as a Pre-Doctoral
fellow at the University of East Anglia.
For the last two years, she was a Research Assistant at the Geneva
Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces working on Legal Aspects
of Democratic Control of Armed Forces, Parliamentary Control of
Armed Forces, and the Role of Civilians in National Security Policy,
as well as on several projects related to South Eastern Europe.
Between 1998 and 1999 she was an Assistant to Dr. Varujan Pambuccian,
Armenian Minority MP, at the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities
in the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament.
Her current research interests include accountability problems
in relation to ESDP, the EU Parliament's growing role in overseeing
defence and security, security sector reform and post-conflict reconstruction
in the Western Balkans as well as legal aspects of democratic control
of armed forces.
She holds a BA in Political Sciences from the University of Bucharest
(1999) and a BA in Law from the Romanian-American University in
Bucharest (1999). She is also Master in European Studies from the
Graduate Institute of European Studies of the University of Geneva
(2002) and Master in Southeast European Studies from the University
of Athens (2000). Her doctoral project focuses on aspects of democratic
accountability in international governance.
