Laurence Thieux joined the Institute of Studies
in Conflicts and Humanitarian Action (IECAH) in May 2003, as a pre-doc
researcher of the ESDP Democracy Project.
Laurence is 34 years old and is a French national.
After graduating from Complutense University in Madrid, in 1993,
with a BA in Journalism, she followed a specialisation in Mediterranean
and Arabic Country Studies. She holds a PhD in Philosophy and Humanities,
with a specialisation in Arabic Studies, and her thesis was on "The
Algerian civil war and its repercussions on the foreign policies
of France and the United States (1991-1999), submitted for degree
in December 2002. She's a native speaker of French, and is proficient
in Spanish and in English with basic command in reading and oral
comprehension of Arabic.
Laurence has published several articles about Algeria
and about the French and US foreign policy with Islam, in a review
of the Peace Research Centre (CIP, Madrid): "Papeles de Cuestiones
Internacionales". In the context of the project "Bridging
the Accountability Gap in EU Defence and Security", she will
focus her research on the new developments in the field of conflict
prevention and complex emergencies in the European Union.
