Mr. Ladislas Bizimana is originally from Rwanda but has resided in Europe since 1995. He is a pre-doctoral fellow for the EDPS Democracy Porject team at Bradfrod University. In recent years, he has been a research student in Peace Studies at the Department of Peace Studies, University of Bradford (UK). His doctoral project focuses on post Rwanda's genocide doctrines and mechanisms of Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution with special reference to sub-Saharan Africa. His research explores, among other issues, the potential and limits of external contribution to the building of African Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution capabilities. In this regard, he closely follows the current formative debates and foreign policy-making developments around a European Common Foreign and Security Policy (EU CFSP) and mechanisms, in order to assess the extent to which the EU could better assist in preventing and resolving crises in sub-Saharan Africa.

Ladislas holds a BA in Modern Languages (National University of Rwanda, NUR), an MA in Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies (European Peace University Centre, EPU, Austria), a Diploma in International Humanitarian Assistance (University of Deusto, Spain), a Diploma in Research Methods in Social Sciences and Humanities (University of Bradford, UK), a Certificate in International Civilian Peace-Keeping and Peace-Building Training, IPT, (Austrian Studies Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, ASPR, Austria), and a Professional Certificate in TV Broadcasting Journalism (Belgian Radio-Television Station Training Centres, Belgium).

His professional experience includes: a research fellowship and assistance to the Co-ordinator of the Humanitarian Studies Unit at the Pedro Arrupe Institute of Human Rights, University of Deusto, Spain, (1997-1999); languages teaching at 'Groupe Scolaire de Kabare' (Misericordiae Brothers College), Rwanda (1989-1991); stays as a full-time reporter at the National Television of Rwanda (1992-1993), and at the Reporters Without Borders-founded 'RADIO AGATASHYA' in the African Great Lakes Region (1994-1995). At this latter, he served as editor-in-chief for the news in French. RADIO GATASHYA ('Good News Radio' in Kinyarwanda: Rwandans' mother tongue) was the first independent humanitarian radio project, created with a view to assisting humanitarian relief activities in the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide and to countering hate propaganda.

Ladislas has participated in various conferences, seminars and workshops related to mass media, humanitarian assistance and conflict resolution. He has published: Conflict in the African Great Lakes region. A critical analysis of regional and international involvement. Bilbao: University of Deusto, 1999; 'La África sub-Sahariana: entre ilusión y desesperanza' ('sub-Saharan Africa: between illusion and despair'), INETEMAS (Publication of the Trans-national Studies Institute of Cordoba, Spain), Year VI, No 14, 1999. He has good knowledge and use of French, English and Spanish languages.
