Dr. Michael Brzoska is head of the Research Department at BICC.
He studied economics and political science and received an economics
degree (Diplom-Volkswirt) a Dr. phil and a habilitation in political
science from the University of Hamburg in Germany. He worked at
the German Africa Institute and the Institute for Peace Research
and Security Studies, both in Hamburg, and co-directed the Arms
Transfer and Production Project at the Stockholm International Peace
Research Institute in Sweden. He later was a lecturer at the Political
Science Department in the University of Hamburg.
His special research fields are the arms trade, arms production,
peace and defense economics and development policy. He is main editor
of BICCs yearbook, the Conversion Survey. In addition
to a number of BICC publications on arms production, military research
and development, resource conversion, and sanctions, he has also
recently authored articles in international academic journals, such
as Journal of Peace Research, Defence and Peace Economics,
Global Dialogue and International Journal of Regional
Science and several edited volumes.
