Joakim Kreutz (Sweden) holds an MA in Social Science from Uppsala
University, where he majored in Political Science with a focus on
International Co-operation and Crisis Management, the latter a program
offered by Uppsala University in co-operation with the Swedish National
Defence College, Stockholm. He also spent one year studying at the
University of Western Australia.
Before joining the ESDP Democracy network, Joakim worked at the
Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University
on several different projects within the Uppsala Conflict Data Program
(UCDP). He still maintains contacts with UCDP through his involvement
in an emerging project aimed at a systematic mapping of peace processes
and conflict regulating agreements.
During his time in Uppsala, Joakim also focused on analysis of
conflict activity and conflict actors leading to contributions in
publications such as Eriksson (Ed.) (2003), "States in Armed
Conflict 2002", Uppsala: Uppsala Publishing House; Mack (Ed.)
(2004, forthcoming), "The Human Security Report"; and
DeRouen & Heo (Eds.) (2004, forthcoming), "Defense and
Security: A Guide to National Armed Forces and Security Policies
of the World".
Current research interests include EU policy instruments in conflict
situations such as arms embargoes and the decision-making processes
surrounding the adaptation and removal of these measures.
