Présentation des enseignements

Le cours a pour but de présenter les grands thèmes structurant l'art de la Péninsule indienne du 3ème siécle avant notre ère jusqu'aux environs de 1200. Seront successivement abordés: 1. Les grands concepts pan-indiens (cosmologie; cultes liés à la fertilité). 2. Les images bouddhiques de la divinité (structure, iconographie). 3. Les images hindoues de la divinité. 4. Les monuments bouddhiques excavés et construits. 5. Les monuments hindous excavés et construits.
6. Les techniques et matériaux (statuaire; peinture).

Présentation des thèmes de recherche

Questions d'iconographie bouddhique de l'Asie du Sud et du Sud-Est.
Étude stylistique de la sculpture d'Inde orientale (Bihar, Bengale).
Étude stylistique et iconographie des peintures murales et de la statuaire de Pagan (Birmanie) du 11ème au 14ème siècle.
