Note that students will be accepted at ULB as Erasmus student only if :


  • an agreement does exist between their faculty and our Faculty of Medicine of ULB ;

  • they have been announced to erasmus.medecine@ulb.ac.be by their University. All the registration information will be send to the student after the announcement ;

  • the deadline to register on our Application On line at opening period is May 31st.

1) For lessons with or without clinical clerkships - Learning Agreement for studies

The deadline to apply for the whole academic year 2017-2018 is May 31st. We won't accept others applications besides those deadlines.

Academic year / lessons


  • French : your level must be at least B1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to follow courses in Medicine - Note that in Dentistry, your French level must be at least B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languagesa as you will start rapidly the traineeships.

  • Courses : to follow courses you have to come one academic year (September 15 to June 30) ; theoretical lessons will start on September 20. Exams can last until June 30. Students must arrive in Brussels at the latest on October 20, after this date, we will refuse them.

  • Lessons : courses are available in medicine from the 3rd year to the 6th year - in dentistery from 3rd year to 5th year - in biomedical sciences from 2nd year to 5th year. To get credits students must take the exams - Modifications of learning agreement can be done only during the 1st month after your arrival - As you can chose courses in differents years it is possible that courses will be taught at the same time - To know your timetable you can check the website Gehol

  • Credits : an academic year (courses / clinical rotations) is normally in total 60 credits. We consider that 45 credits for lessons is a good average (3 clerkships of 4,5 credits each will be able to add).

  • Holidays : please check the academic calendarpdf.

  • Administrative registration : as exchange student at University is compulsory at arrival. The Erasmus Office will contact you by email some weeks before your arrival to inform you of the welcoming appointment.

Internships


  • Occupational health : in order to perform an internship in hospital, it is compulsory to provide this certificateword completed by the medical service of your university or another doctor. The certificate has to be sent by mail to the occupational health department of ULB : medtrav@erasme.ulb.ac.be.

  • Clerkships in dentistry : choice will be made with the Academic Coordinator - clerkships of 2 months.

  • Clerkships in medicine : clinical rotations will be assigned to students in December-January, according to a computerized choice and availabilities at our different hospitals. It isn't an obligation to follow clerckships. The internships will only be possible in : Endocrinology - Gastroenterology - Haematology - Nephrology - Urology - Neurology - ENT - Pneumology - Psychiatry - Intensive care - Cardiology - Ophthalmology - Emergency - Anatomopathology - Heart surgery - Digestive surgery - Orthopedic surgery - Plastic Surgery - Neurosurgery.

  • Number of clerkships in medicine : at least 3 internships of 4 weeks (in December, March and April) - 1 clerkship = 1 topic ; it is not possible to organize practical clinical work in each topic wanted by the student.

  • Internship hours : clinical work lasts 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week full time (it means during the morning and the afternoon), minimum 5 days a week plus duty periods.

  • Insurance : you will be cover by the ULB insurance with your registration to our University (12 €).

  • Holidays : no days off during the clerkships.

2) For clinical rotations without exams/lessons - Learning Agreement for studies (we don't accept Learning agreement for traineeships)

The deadline to apply for the 1st term (14/09/2017 - 04/02/2018) and/or for the 2st term (05/02/2018 - 01/07/2018) is May 31st. We won't accept others applications besides those deadlines.

Admission


  • Note that students must come before September 15 if they want to start clerkships in September (see below).

  • French : your level must be at least B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to follow internships in Medicine. You will have to send a certificate that proves this level at the time of your applications. If the knowledge of French is not sufficient, the admission to clerkships will be refused.

  • Level of studies : students are preferably in their final year of studies (5th or 6th year) and must have already studied theoretical course concerned at home university. You will also have to send a certificate that proves you have passed the theoretical courses of the internships you want to take at the time of your applications.

  • Occupational health : in order to perform an internship in hospital, it is compulsory to provide this certificateword completed by the medical service of your university or another doctor. The certificate has to be sent by mail to the occupational health department of ULB : medtrav@erasme.ulb.ac.be.

  • Administrative registration as exchange student at University is compulsory at arrival. The Erasmus Office will contact you by email some weeks before your arrival to inform you of the welcoming appointment.

  • Once the learning agreement is signed by students and the two coordinators, they cannot modify their choice of specialties or the duration of the stay.

Internships


  • The internships will only be possible in : Cardiology - Anesthesiology - Plastic Surgery - Ophthalmology - Emergency - Anatomopathology - Heart surgery - Digestive surgery - Orthopedic surgery - Neurosurgery - Endocrinology - Gastroenterology - Haematology - Nephrology - Urology - Neurology - ENT - Pneumology - Psychiatry - Intensive care - Medical imaging.

  • Credits : an internhsip of 4 weeks = 6 credits.

  • Period of clerkships to fulfil : Mo 18/09/2017 to Su 15/10/2017 * Mo 16/10/2017 to Su 12/11/2017 * Mo 13/11/2017 to Su 10/12/2017 * Mo 11/12/2017 to Su 07/01/2018 * Mo 08/01/2018 to Su 04/02/2018 * Mo 05/02/2018 to Su 04/03/2018 * Mo 05/03/2018 to Su 01/04/2018 * Mo 02/04/2018 to Su 29/04/2018 * Mo 30/04/2018 to Su 27/05/2018 * Mo 28/05/2018 to Su 24/06/2018 * Mo 25/06/2018 to Su 22/07/2018 * Mo 23/07/2018 to Su 19/08/2018 * Mo 20/08/2018 to Su 16/09/2018.

  • Each clinical rotations starts on a Monday and last minimum 1 month per subject.

  • Organization : clinical work lasts 8 hours/day, full time (it means during the morning and the afternoon), minimum 5 days a week plus duty periods

  • The choice of hospital is done by the Erasmus office at Faculty of Medicine, according to the learning agreement (choice of specialties) and availabilities in our hospitals. You can find here the usual hospitals concerned in Brussels only for the Erasmus program. The program of clerkships will be sent by e-mail to the e-mail address communicated by the student up to one week before the begining of the internship.

  • Internship hours : clinical work lasts 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week full time (it means during the morning and the afternoon), minimum 5 days a week plus duty periods.

  • Holidays : 1 days off per month of clerkship + public holidays. No holidays during Christmas or Easter period (except public holidays).

  • Insurance : you will be cover by the ULB insurance with your registration to our University (12 €).
