Research

Environmental research at the ULB involves more than 80 teams and laboratories of researchers: Ecology of Aquatic Systems, Polar Glaciology, Health Programs and Politics in Developing Countries, CREA-SURF, Environmental Law, the Centre for Economic and Social Studies on the Environment, etc.

An inventory of activities at the ULB in the realm of environmental research grouped research activity into four main themes with various subtopics:

  • Environment and society: sustainable development, environmental management, land-use planning, transportation policy, behavior of social actors, etc.

  • Functioning and management of natural environments: global change, air, aquatic zones, agricultural ecosystems, forests, and conservation

  • Environmental technology: solid waste, wastewater, livestock waste, soil

  • Environment and health: food, occupational well-being, and factors of physical, chemical, biological, and psychosocial risks
