The academic programme In line with the European harmonisation of higher education, degree courses in the French-speaking part of Belgium are organised around the three cycle system: The initial training consists of: First cycle studies: these are general studies lasting 3 years (180 ECTS) and lead to a Bachelor (or BA) degree. Second cycle studies: these are more specialised studies lasting 1 or 2 years (60/120 ECTS) depending on the desired scope; they lead to a Master (or MA) degree. Second cycle veterinary studies take 3 years (180 ECTS) and medical studies 4 years (240 ECTS).
Please check our list of Masters fully or partly taught in English Following initial training and with at least 300 credits, complementary studies lasting at least 1 year (Master after master or MAM) are offered in certain disciplines. The objective for participating students is to gain a specialised professional qualification. Third cycle studies are doctorate programmes with study work related to writing a doctoral thesis (PhD).
