Studying at ULB

How does ULB apply the ECTS grading scale?

The percentages of passing students in the chart are not applied to the group to which the student belongs, but to statistics covering the previous three academic years. These statistics are established by each faculty for all levels of study (BA1 in Science, BA2 in Science, BA3 in Science… BA1 in Philosophy and Letters, BA2 in Philosophy and Letters…) and help determine the A-B-C-D-E thresholds. They are updated annually and available to students at the beginning of the academic year to which they apply.

For example: if over the last 3 years, the top 10% of BA1students in one Faculty scored 17/20 or more, a BA1 student of that same Faculty who would score 17 at an exam this year will be awarded an A in the ECTS scale.

The A-B-C-D-E thresholds are available on each Faculty’s website.

They will appear as a complement on the diploma supplement of all students graduating from ULB. They will also be mentioned on the transcripts of records of outgoing and incoming exchange students.
