ABOUT PROJECT

This project intends to provide a comprehensive study (approche globale) of IP/IT protection as it relates to the evolving EU system of judicial cooperation. Surprisingly, while much of interesting work has been done with regard to Community and international protection of intellectual property rights and information technologies, it has been mostly from the points of view of intellectual-property and economic-law experts and not always systematic. While the project will consider the specificities, diverse needs and overarching principles of the various forms of intellectual property and information technologies, it is primarily concerned with ensuring the optimal functioning of the EU judicial-cooperation system, both in the Community and in its relations with third countries.

The project centers around written contributions of the participating experts, in topics allocated to them which will be presented, first in draft form, in a Roundtable halfway through the program scheduled for 6-7 October 2006 in Heidelberg and then finalized in a international symposium (tentatively in January 2007), before being published.

Project is co-financed by the European Commission by the European Commission Framework Programme on Judicial Co-operation in Civil Matters (proposal no. JLS/2005/FPC/036-30-CE-0035985/00-55).
