The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of ULB (Université Libre de
Bruxelles, Belgium) announces a mixed technical/researcher position in the research unit
« Isotopes : Petrology and Environment ». The applicant will be in charge of the
routine analyses and maintenance of the Nu Plasma MC-ICP-MS (multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer) and a classic ICP-MS. In parallel, the
applicant could also pursue his own research project . Applicants are sought to join a collaborative, dynamic and young research team. The
department includes twenty or so researchers and works in collaboration with national
(UCL, VUB, ULg, MRAC, NHIR, ...) and international institutes (PCIGR-UBC, Univ.
of Toulouse, Univ. of Lille, Univ. of Lisboa, NIPR-Japan, ...). In addition to the mass
spectrometers and clean labs managed by the IPE research unit, a state-of-art
instrumental park and laboratories are available through the national collaborations.
The team has a strong expertise in non-traditional and radiogenic isotopes, applied to
mantle and crust geodynamic, metal deposition sources and processes in soils, atmospheric particles, sediments, ... A new large research program has
started focusing on meteorites for studying the early stages of planetary
differentiation. The Department is located on the Solbosch Campus, near the

Profil
In addition to a good experience with ICP-MS (and/or MC-ICP-MS), a Master's degree in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry is required, with ideally a PhD. The position is availble for 6 months temporary contract renewable under conditions (from October 2010) up to 2 years maximum.
