A Chemical analyst or a mixed analyst/researcher position : (MC) - ICP - Mass Spectrometry.

Fonction

  • The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) announces a mixed technical/researcher position in the research unit « Isotopes : Petrology and Environment ». The applicant will be in charge of the routine analyses and maintenance of the Nu Plasma MC-ICP-MS (multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer) and a classic ICP-MS. In parallel, the applicant could also pursue his own research project .

  • Applicants are sought to join a collaborative, dynamic and young research team. The department includes twenty or so researchers and works in collaboration with national (UCL, VUB, ULg, MRAC, NHIR, ...) and international institutes (PCIGR-UBC, Univ. of Toulouse, Univ. of Lille, Univ. of Lisboa, NIPR-Japan, ...). In addition to the mass spectrometers and clean labs managed by the IPE research unit, a state-of-art instrumental park and laboratories are available through the national collaborations. The team has a strong expertise in non-traditional and radiogenic isotopes, applied to mantle and crust geodynamic, metal deposition sources and processes in soils, atmospheric particles, sediments, ... A new large research program has started focusing on meteorites for studying the early stages of planetary differentiation.

Profil

In addition to a good experience with ICP-MS (and/or MC-ICP-MS), a Master's degree in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry is required, with ideally a PhD. The position is availble for 6 months temporary contract renewable under conditions (from October 2010) up to 2 years maximum. Vacancy will be close end of June 2010.
