There is inscreasing awareness that in many nanoscale systems the formation of ordered phases involves non-standard nucleation and growth processes. Extensive experimental, theoretical and computational efforts have been reported in a variety of cases, from simple fluids to protein solutions and colloidal matter in general. They reveal among others the occurence of metastable phases and multistep nucleation as well of kinetic roughening types of transitions, interfering significantly with the yield of the process and the quality of the resulting material.

Despite the potential interest of this emerging field, there is so far no systematic attempt to bring together representative members of the community of the researchers involved to share information on the progress achieved and exchange ideas on future directions. To fill this gap a two day workshop entitled "Kinetics and thermodynamics of multistep nucleation and self-assembly in nanosize materials" is organized in Brussels on March 25 and 26, 2010.

The program features several invited talks and there is possibility of poster presentations. Researchers interested in attending this event are requested to fill the registration form by March 15 2010. There is no attendance fee required. Hotel reservations must be made directly by the participants (see links below).
