Summary

I am a agricultural engineer, born in Brussels, Belgium (1960). I specialised in human ecology and rural economics in India. After a short agro-technico-economic study in Belgium, I moved to Guinea-Bissau as technical adviser for a governmental rural credit project (1984-87). Then I became researcher at Brussels University (Economical policy Centre, 1988-1992) working part time in fundamental regional econometrics, and part time in economic aspects of environment (energy and air pollution). I moved to the European Commission (DGXI-EEA-TF, environment, 1992-1994), where I was responsible for dissemination of CORINE GIS data, the Catalogue of Data Sources and background work for the Paneuropean report on Environment ('Dobris'). I initiated the project of General Multilingual Environmental Thesaurus. Our team was responsible for the launching of European Environment Agency. I contributed to its multiannual Workprogramme, projects metadata and thesauri. I worked then as a consultant for the new European Environment Agency (Copenhagen), defining and organising the first inventory of the Main Component Elements of the European Environmental Information and Observation Network (EIONET). Performing some other small consultancy jobs, I worked at Brussels University on a prototype metadatabase related to sustainable development. I am now responsible for Territory statistical directory of Statistics Belgium. I negociated various European statistics regulation. I am the author of various papers, technical or scientific reports, databases and metadatabases.
