"Development and application
of indicators of sustainable development in Belgium"
PROGRAM:
Levers for a sustainable development policy
French
version
Content:
The main objective of the project
is to define and implement indicators to measure sustainable development
in Belgium with emphasis on a sectoral approach for two "target"
sectors: transport and agriculture.
In a first stage, the project
aims to define sustainable mobility and agriculture. On this basis,
it will characterise major issues for these sectors taking into account
Belgian socio-economic, environmental and institutional specificities.
In a second stage, the project
will select indicators taking into account the previously defined methodological
framework and the availability and quality of the data. Methodological
sheets providing information related with selected indicators (definition,
policy relevance, links with sustainable development, methodology, source
of data, ...) will be elaborated.
In a third step, these indicators
will be implemented and evaluated.
Parallel to the main objective,
another aim of the project is, on the one hand, to contribute to the enrichment
and finalisation of the working list of indicators of sustainable development
established by the Commission of Sustainable Development (United Nations),
and consequently on the other hand, to co-operate with Belgium's participation
to the international test programme.
