The Institute of Medical Immunology (IMI)

In 2004, an innovative partnership struck between the ULB, GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals (GSK-Biologicals), and the region of Wallonia gave birth to the Institute of Medical Immunology (IMI). Its goal: to create a European centre of excellence in Wallonia. The Institute is part of the ULB Medicine Department, and focuses its work on research projects in four key areas

  • immunostimulants

  • infant immunology

  • organ transplants

  • immunological biomarkers.

The findings of the research carried out in the IMI is put to use first and foremost in Wallonia, thanks to a cooperation agreement signed by ULB and GSK-Biologicals. Some research projects have also acted as a launch pad for spin-off businesses, and the group research centre ImmuneHealth also began at the IMI.
