Nuno Piçarra is professor of Community law at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Amongst other things he teaches the European law of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice.

From 1990 to 1995, he was legal secretary in the Court of the First Instance of the European Communities.
From 1996 to 2000, he was the National Coordinator for the Matters related to the Free Movement of Persons in the European Union and the Portuguese representative to the Committee K4 and to the Central Working Party of Schengen.
