CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS ABOUT A STUDY DONE FOR THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ON THE FUTURE COMMON EUROPEAN ASYLUM SYSTEM
A team made of some members of the Odysseus Academic Network has been selected through a call for tender by the European Parliament to undertake, in partnership with the UNHCR and ECRE, a study on the future of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS).
The study carries out two main objectives and is therefore divided in two parts. The first part aims at reviewing the implementation of the first generation of asylum instruments and assessing the evaluations done by the European Commission. The second calls for a prospective analysis with a set of proposals in view of the future asylum instruments and will contribute to the future debates around the new proposals made by the European Commission.
The study will follow a horizontal approach, rather to apprehend each instrument separately, in order to give a general view on problematic issues. It has been divided in six research themes:
The distribution of asylum seekers and refugees between the Member States
The definition of persons to be protected
The status of protected persons
The asylum procedures
The external dimension of asylum
The institutional framework of the CEAS
The first stage will be finalised in July 2009, the second one in November 2009 and the full study submitted to the European Parliament by January 2010. A public conference will be organised at each stage in Brussels. The first one will take place on 4 July 2009 and the second one is scheduled on 18 November 2009. The results of the study will be published.
If you are interested and would like to be informed about the results of the study, you are kindly invited to send to the email address below a message with the indication “study CEAS” including your name, function, organisation and personal details. You can also submit directly any statement about the issues related to the study as well as proposals to improve the new generation of asylum instruments. Thanks also for mentioning or sending any relevant literature that has been published in your country.
WE HOPE TO BENEFIT FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE.
THIS IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO REINFORCE NETWORKING BETWEEN NGOS & ALL INTERESTED ORGANISATIONS AND PERSONS IN THE EU.
MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP.
