Inspection Visit Evaluation Commission

On Monday, November 4th, the FISU Evaluation Commission, composed of Mr. Furuhashi, Mr. Campana, Mr. Anastassov, Mr. Kiselev and Mr. Saintrond spent the first day of inspection in Kaohsiung (Chinese Taipei) in the framework of its candidature for the 2007 Summer Universiade.

After meeting the mayor of Kaohsiung, Mr. Frank Hsieh, Vice-Mayor Mr. lin together with the FISU representatives visited the proposed facilities for the competitions of athletics, swimming, diving, water polo, tennis and taekwondo (optional sport proposed by the bidding committee), as well as one of the sport halls that could host the volleyball finals.

The members of the commission also visited the stadium proposed for the opening and closing ceremonies and whose capacity for 30,000 seats would be increased to 40,000 for the 2007 Summer Universiade. Apart from one venue that still needs to be constructed for the basketball finals, all the facilities necessary for the competitions and the training are already available and only require minor re-fitting or renovation work. Tomorrow, the delegation will visit among other sites, the village proposed for accommodating the athletes as well as the National Athletes' Training Center, a center that can host training in seven disciplines.
