| The Organizing Committee of the 2003 Daegu Universiade, which took over the FISU flag at the Closing Ceremony of the 2001 Summer Universiade in Beijing, is working hard on its preparation process to stage the next Universiade. When the citys mayor and president of the Organizing Committee Higab Moon returned from Beijing there was a welcoming ceremony at the Daegu Airport celebrating the transfer of the FISU flag. We will do our best to host a successful Universiade and show Daegu to the world, the Mayor said to the five hundred Daegu citizens and officials who attended the ceremony. The Organizing Committee reported that it will focus on advertising and publicizing the Daegu Universiade internationally in order to make it a world-class sport event and attract the interest of people all over the world. The OC plans to reinforce its work force gradually. The number of committee members, which is currently 75, will be increased up to 300 by mid-2003. The OC will also recruit individuals who have experiences in organizing any kind of international sport events. In an effort to make foreign visitors feel at home, volunteers, fluent in various foreign languages, including English, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian, will serve as translators. Moreover, road signs with foreign languages will be upgraded and traffic and tourist information systems will be installed to provide a more accessible environment during the event. Also, visits to local sites of ancient ruins and cultural heritage will be developed.
