Beijing Medal Winners loot Goodwill Games

After the Beijing Universiade, some athletes did not take time off. On the contrary, they traveled to the Land Down Under and looted the Goodwill Games, which were held in Brisbane. However, it was gymnast and Universiade gold medallist Philippe Rizzo (AUS) who became the new Australian sporting hero. He showed the home crowd his gold medal on the horizontal bar the week before at the Beijing Universiade was not plain luck. By repeating his performance he proved to be a top-notch athlete. Rizzo, who’s father represented France in gymnastics at the 1960 Rome Olympics, pocketed the first medal of any color for Australia in Goodwill Games gymnastics history and the crowd of 6,000 spectators in the sold out Brisbane Convention Center went out of their minds.
