The Calcium 2006 conference will take place in the auditorium of the ESBS (Ecole Supérieure de Biotechnologie de Strasbourg) which is located at Illkirch, in the south of Strasbourg. This multicultural university institution represents a part of the University Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg and the Universities of the upper Rhine region of Basel, Karlsruhe and Freiburg. The teaching covers the vast field of molecular and cellular biology focusing on genetic engineering as well as biochemical analysis, while including microbiology, cell culture, immunology, virology, etc. Fundamental sciences also play an important role (mathematics, chemistry, physical chemistry) as well as traditional engineering sciences (process engineering, electronics, data processing). Furthermore, courses are completed by lectures in economics. The final diploma degree of engineering obtained at the ESBS is officially recognized in all of the three countries involved in this partnership. The educational program aims at preparing ESBS students for working in academic institutions and in the industry and qualifying the students for the international market.
