Molecular Physiology of the Cell

Head : Bruno André

"Our research mainly focuses on the yeast S. cerevisiae which is a paradigm model system for dissecting the molecular mechanisms of basic cellular functions in eukaryotes. A wide panel of methods are readily applicable to yeast, ranging from classical genetics and biochemistry to genomics and proteomics. Furthermore, basic cellular mechanisms are highly conserved from yeast to human."

Research projects :

- Roles of ubiquitin and lipids in trafficking of membrane proteins

- Amino acid signalling in yeast: multiple roles of ubiquitin

- Functional genomics and nitrogen regulation in yeast

Latests news :

- Last October 13, Kassem successfully defended his mid-term report to the FRIA jury
- Last September 30, Ahmad MERHI successfully defended his PhD work. Congratulations to him! All lab members then went to a very nice Labenese restaurant in Brussels. Ahmad will stay one more year in the lab to finalize different research projects.
- A new pregraduate student, Alvaro Carretero Fernandez, coming from Spain (via Erasmus), joined our lab - welcome to him.

  Conferences

- Last September 24-29, Bruno attended the EMBO conference "Dynamic endosomes: mechanisms controlling endocytosis" in Chania, Greece (Creta).

- Last August 16-20, Bruno And Myriam attended the "Yeast Cell Biology" meeting organized by the Cold Spring Harbor Lab (near New-York, USA), where Bruno presented a talk about the Bul adaptors of the Rsp5 ubiquitin ligase and their role in Gap1 permease ubiquitylation.

- Last June 19-24, Kassem Ghaddar attended the Gordon conference "Mechanisms of membrane transport" near Boston (USA), where he presented a poster.
