Presentation

Created in 1963, the Institute for European Studies of the ULB is one of the oldest research and teaching centre totally dedicated to the study of the European Union.

It has delivered over 3500 Master diplomas in European law, economics and politics, in over forty years. There are many Institute alumni in European Institutions, national and international public service, as well as in the private sector, law firms, businesses, research centres and the media. The Institute is proud of counting among its former students a former European Commissioner, two judges of the European Court, several Members of European Parliament and national Ministers.

The Institute is also a Research and Advanced Study Centre. About twenty teachers from the ULB take part in its research programs, along with twenty external scientific collaborators. Every year, the Institute welcomes a dozen visiting researchers from other Universities in the Union, from the United States, Latin America and Asia.

Since 1998, the Institute is the Jean Monnet Pole in Brussels, and takes part in many research programs funded by the European Union and other international organisations.

Many debates on the state of the Union take place within the Institute as well. Twenty or so colloquiums are organised within its walls every year, as well as numerous seminars, public debates, conferences…
