En 332 avant J.-C., Alexandre le Grand conquiert
l'Égypte. Dès lors et pour près de dix siècles, le pays, sans rompre avec ses
traditions propres, appartient à la sphère grecque. Il connaît successivement
une administration lagide, romaine, puis byzantine. L'Association Internationale
de Papyrologues (AIP), dont les prémices remontent à une réunion tenue à
Bruxelles en 1930, constitue le trait d'union entre tous ceux qui s'intéressent
à l'Égypte gréco-romaine, en particulier aux dizaines de milliers de textes en
langue grecque que le climat de la vallée du Nil a préservés jusqu'à nous. Elle
est placée sous le signe de l'amicitia papyrologorum.
L'AIP est membre de la Fédération Internationale
des Associations d'Études Classiques (FIEC).
In 332 B.C. Alexander the Great conquered Egypt. From
then on and for nearly a millennium, the country, while retaining its own
traditions, belonged to the Greek world. It came to be under Ptolemaic, then
Roman, then Byzantine administration. The International Association of
Papyrologists (AIP), which originated in a meeting hold in Brussels in 1930,
attempts to link together all who are interested in Graeco-Roman Egypt, in
particular in the thousands of Greek texts that the climate of the Nile valley
has preserved up to now. The ultimate rule for the Association is the amicitia papyrologorum.The AIP is member of the International Federation of the Societies of
Classical Studies (FIEC).
